A Very Long First Day!
Today didn't start out the greatest, as I overslept! I was a few minutes late this morning, but thankfully, they are not clock watchers over there. And I couldn't get in on my own since I didn't have a security pass for that building. When I got there, I took one of my boxes up, along with my plant, so I had all of that situated before 9 a.m. My desk area is ok. They have cubicles in this office, which I DO NOT like! I have less space than in my old office, but at least I have the window view. I actually have more space than most people because of the window. I would feel claustrophobic if my cube was stuck in the middle! A big disappointment was that they didn't have my computer set up because of some kind of glitch in my transfer. I don't think they will have that taken care of until tomorrow afternoon.Next I got a tour of the floor, of which I felt completely lost because of the cubes - everything seems like it's in a maze. And yes, we are the rats! LOL. I got to meet all of my coworkers, and they seem nice. I recognized several faces from other departments, so at least I know some people in the building besides my manager. Then I was shocked when I was taken to the security office to get my badge, and they have photo I.D.'s at this office! Our old office didn't have photo I.D.'s, they just had badges that you swipe through. Because I overslept, I looked like crap! Now I'm stuck with this badge for what, like the next 10-15 years? lol
By ten o-clock, I went out to get my second box and had it unpacked within 5 minutes. Ok..So it's 10:05am, and I have nothing to do! With no computer, I'm stuck. This is the problem with a company with a paperless system! If the server is down, or you are having issues with your PC, you can't do anything! Ugh! So guess what I did the entire day? I read. I'm not kidding, I sat there for more than 6 hours and read a John Grisham book, all the while my boss knew I couldn't do anything else. How pathetic is that? I felt horrible because I spent a day doing absolutely nothing, getting paid by the company to read my own darn book.
Tomorrow I at least want to sit with someone else for a little while to get the feel of the job. All I know is that I can't stand one more day of idleness! I'm used to being swamped and can't seem to function without a little bit of stress, you know?
Overall, I do think I will like it there. I like my "space," my co-workers, the office location, the building layout (like having a separate break room on our floor!) and atmosphere. My only complaints from this first day is boredom and the quietness. This place was way too quiet. You could hear a pin drop. I swear I could hear the guy breathing on the other side of my cube!
BFL - I ate clean yesterday and today, and back on schedule with my workouts.
And this sounds crazy, but I'm mentally exhausted from doing absolutely nothing!
